Getting Social with Laundry and make up – don’t ask me… just do it!

I recently got invited to attend a “Day to Night” workshop at “I love my Laundry” and ever since Cindy Alfino announced that the next blog meet will be there … the intrigue struck hard.

My mind immediately jumped to one of the first episodes of 2 Broke Girls where these Hipsters rented out the laundromat for their 80’s popup disco party. I won’t lie… I wished I was there. 2-broke-girls-105-1Source

I digress…

Social Club has partnered up with the always classy and camera ready, Fiona from Inspired Living SA to bring us a super fun girls night out while teaching us how to pull off  the perfect Day to Night makeup, clothes and hair transformation. Not gonna lie… I need help in this area!
If you’d like to join in the fun, the tickets are R180 each which is REALLY worth it. There are still some tickets left and I would LOVE to see you there too! Because… wine… and dimsum…. duh! Don’t ask questions… just do it!
Oh… and you see those logos there at the bottom… these will be in the goodie bags. super-duper-anchorman

Hello good hair days – thank you John Frieda

I’m a simple girl – I wash my hair and go and think nothing of it. I’m also an idealist and expect great things to happen with very little effort. So, when I read the instructions in my specially packed John Frieda hair box (for frizzy hair) I was like…

tumblr_m4sfd5RKTk1r2zu7yo1_500My box consisted of:

  • Full Repair Deep Conditioner
  • Frizz-Ease Shampoo
  • Frizz-Ease Conditioner
  • Frizz-Ease Hair Serum
  • Friz Ease Dream Curls Styling Spray
  • Hair towel

Here’s what you do:

  1. Wash your hair as you would normally do using the John Frieda Frizz-Ease shampoo
  2. Condition your hair as you would normally do using the John Frieda Frizz-Ease conditioner
  3. Use the Full Repair Deep Conditioner as a hair mask 3 times a week depending on how dry your hair is
  4. Apply a tiny amount of the hair serum to soaking wet hair – avoid the roots
  5. Towel dry your hair (I got a nifty hair towel which is very kind to the hair)
  6. Spray the Frizz-Ease spray onto damp hair – use generously and scrunch up sections of the hair that you’ve sprayed.
  7. Now you can either leave it to dry naturally or you can dry your hair with the diffuser thing-a-ma-bobby on.

I followed the steps and LOVED that it was really so simple. I didn’t deviate much from my normal routine, besides the serum and the spray.

oops… how did that get in there?

The verdict – I have a natural kink in my hair, which is so difficult to handle. I’ve been using these John Frieda products for about 3 weeks now. My hair feels much better: it’s shinier, it’s definitely better to manage and suddenly, I got more manageable kinks! And also… I managed to pull off BEACH HAIR!

Everything smells amazing! The shampoo feels like silk in your hands and even while working it through your hair, you can feel it working its magic. The Deep Conditioner is rich and moisturising and makes brushing and managing your hair effortless. The serum is crazy awesome. I have looooong hair and the tiny squirt of serum I used was so concentrated that I could work it through my hair without having to use more. The spray is like magic – it activates curls like there’s no tomorrow. My hair was limpy and dull but after a couple of sprays and little bit of scrunching – voila! Natch spirals in an instant!

I must admit, I haven’t been treating my hair the way I should have and still I expected it to shine and be amazing.

I always thought that great hair is “mission impossible” but truly, you can have great hair with John Frieda if you know what to get.

Whether you’re looking for a colour boost or a treat for your hair, you’ll definitely find the range that suits your needs.

Have a look at their site – and please go follow them on Twitter. They are super nice and interactive on Twitter and you’ll get great advice from them too. Also check out their Facebook page here.

Victorian Garden – Rosemary and Jojoba hair Masque (with peppermint)

This week has been a “hair week” for me – I received a stunning box from John Frieda filled with products specially put together for my hair needs (which I’ll try out over the weekend)

John Frieda…… and I got a lovely tub of Victorian Gardens Rosemary and Jojoba hair masque in my Bloggers Who Bless goodie bag.

I thought I’d give my hair a much deserved break from the chemical stuff and try out the NATURAL Victorian Garden hair masque. As I’ve said, Victorian Garden is a natural skin care company – music to my ears! Given the choice between a designer brand and a natural brand, I’ll take NATCH over DESIGN any day. The reason for this, is my intrigue around the manufacturing of natural products. Here, Victorian Garden is quite unique.

They have combined the forces of biochemists, Aromatherapists and Phytotherapists to create the most awesome natural (and closest to 100% organic as possible) beauty products – straight from the GARDEN.

The Victorian Garden Jojoba hair Masque

Victorian GardenIf you’re not an herb lover, you may not like the smell, but for someone with a keen appreciation of natural products, it was a real treat for the senses as the tingle of peppermint invigorates you.

I applied a scoop (using my hands of course) of the creamy masque and worked it through my hair (which was so dry that it sucked up all the goo). I left it on for a couple of minutes before jumping into the shower and from there it was the normal “wash and condition mission”.

What you need to know about my hair: It’s highlighted and extremely dry. I go through conditioner like there’s no tomorrow and even tubs of Sunsilk hair treatments don’t last very long. I’ve invented a “hair smoothie” which consists of 4 different conditioners, hair oil and the Sunsilk treatment but even this concoction fails miserably.

After using the mask I could feel a significant difference in my hair and I noticed even that my hair stayed wet for longer. You might have heard that conditioners lock in moisture. I’m not sure how literal it can be taken or to which extreme the moisture gets locked in but as true as Bob… my hare was lekker nat.

It has now been 3 days since I used the masque and I washed my hair last night…. WITHOUT HAVING TO USE A DROP OF CONDITIONER!!! *High 5*

I always wait at least 3 weeks to see significant results though, so I’m expecting luscious locks by the time I walk down the aisle at my friend’s wedding this month.

Thank you to Heather De Bruin from Bloggers Who Bless and Victorian Garden for this amazing product! You can order yours here and also make sure you follow them on Twitter here. We also got a 20% discount voucher and I’m definitely going to take advantage of this offer and splurge on a fragrance…. YES THEY HAVE FRAGRANCES TOO!

Pre-Launch Review!! Hey Gorgeous Hot Hair Treatment

Hot Hair treatment (800x600)

I got to try out the brand spanking new Hey Gorgeous Hot Hair Treatment… you ladies WANT TO read this.

The look: It comes in a lovely 200ml bottle with quirky instructions to guide you.

The smell: I was expecting just another hair treatment and the smell of coconut oil (which isn’t bad) but was pleasantly surprised by its sweet, clean smell. After I rinsed it off, my hair still smelled like flowers.

The feel: On your hair, it feels like a light conditioner and not oily at all. On your skin, it feels like silk.

Instructions: Pour a little oil into a small bowl and heat up (I did mine in the microwave oven for about 2 minutes). Wet your hair and apply the warm oil. Comb through and wrap a towel around your head. Now you can do a little homework, watch TV or scare the neighbors’ cats. (I’m kidding! The Garfield look-alikes next door scare ME)

You can decide how long you want to leave it on your hair. I left it on for an hour and washed my hair afterwards. First I towel dried my hair and then blow dried it and I have to say, it was the easiest blow dry I’ve ever had. The next day your hair is sure to feel amazing. It’s a MUST for anyone with dry and/or highlighted hair. It’s like Comfort (the fabric softener) but for your hair.

You can see from the pic that I’ve used it more than once and I am planning on investing in a full sized bottle of my own. Keep an eye out on Twitter and on their Facebook page for more details and costs.

Lots of love still stroking my GORGEOUS hair
