A real Stepping Stone – Lush

Stepping Stone BannerOne thing that always “gets me” about Lush’s products are the names. Whoever comes up with these names should be awarded a “Punny medal of honour”. If you’re reading this, I salute you. I saluteThe much dreaded Sunday evening with its taste of the Monday Blues, to me, is usually a bath time feast. It’s the time of the week, where I try to relax and indulge in my favourite bath products. Just so that it’s very clear – I’ve had the worst time trying to ration my Lush products – I want to use them every day, all day long!

This week I set out to try the blue, fresh smelling, foot-shaped foot scrub called Stepping Stone. As with the Each Peach Massage bar, my purchase was based on smell. It smells like the ocean, if the ocean smelled like citrus and jojoba. At first, I wasn’t convinced that this brittle bar could quite stand up to the challenge, but as soon as it hit the water and I worked it onto my feet, I could feel the sea salt and pumice doing its magic. Stepping stone 2Bonus: If your dream has always been to be a Smurf, then THIS is the product for you! *LIFE MADE*

stepping stone 3Also, in addition to being buffed and polished, my feet were soft and moisturised by the oils the scrub contains.

How to use: Break into preferred sizes for future uses (I think I’d get about 3 uses out of it) and store in a cool, dry place. If you would like to purchase your very own Smurf maker… I mean Stepping Stone, you can head on over to the Lush site.

stepping stone 1** I think I might have to factor into my monthly budget some extra money for Lush … who needs to eat? **

Tuesday 10’s – Summer lusts

Tuesday 10’s – my summer holiday lusts

I don’t know about you folks but I’m planning my holiday already. I’ve paid my deposit, planned my pre- and post- New Year’s activities and this time around (unlike last year) I’m going to forget about the “worldly problems” that haunt us because… guess what, 2013 Leana… yes you get frustrated… but it all works out… and you’re stronger for it.

I sought out to find THE summer MUST-HAVE items for 2014/2015 and I made my own personal short list of things I really, really want.

How to: Get abs

abs challenge

I know a lot of people have been waiting on this post (judging only by the comments I got on my abs posts on Instagram).

Last year this time, I took the step to a more healthy lifestyle – cutting out carbs as far as possible and increasing my protein intake. But on my journey I’ve taken a couple of unnecessary detours because “I knew better”. I decided to take this step because a friend of mine was doing incredibly well on Herbalife. But I have this “Nah, I’ll do it my way” mentality and then I end up dwindling back to what I was told to do anyways.

For months I have been testing different brands of protein shakes but I always had a tub of Herbalife shake stashed somewhere for a rainy day. One day, when I finished another tub of my first choice of protein shake, I thought “screw this! I’m gonna finish my Herbalife shakes” (Which I had purchased ONLY in support of my friend who sells the products).

At the same time (more or less) my friend laid down the Abs challenge and I said… Challenge accepted

The challenge

And here’s the challenge: challenge

If you’re not familiar with the exercises … here you go

Plank, Crunches, Russian Twists, Lying Leg Raises, Bicycle Crunches, Mountain Climbers, Tiger Poses, Flutter Kicks, Leg Climb Crunches, V-ups, Oblique Crunches, Bird-Dogs.

We had to incorporate these exercises into your normal workout over a course of 4 weeks – it wasn’t clear as to how often a week you had to do them, but since the challenge, I made sure that I went to the gym at least 3 – 4 times a week.

The diet

I mentioned my protein shakes vs the Herbalife shakes. Now, I know there have been negative rumours about the company, but I’ll say this… the Herbalife products WORK! I replaced two meals a day with Herbalife shakes and for snacks, I stuck to fruit and yogurt and for dinner, I had whatever I wanted…. in moderation, of course. Stay away from excessive carbs. We need carbs from time to time, but try to stop after the first potato … MKay?

What really motivated me

I’m a bit of an insta-stalker and like to follow fitness profiles like @unifit_inspiration and other profiles that feature good bodies. But what I find most helpful is looking at pictures of people that I know. If you don’t have that someone on Facebook that you hate to look at … I suggest you find new frennemies.

Fit Santa’s little helpers

I’ve always been on fat burners – I use the Clicks brand called Epha-Cut and it does the job as well as any USN Phedra Cut can do (look at me… with the lingo and what not…) BUT in the “Week 1” Picture above, I was on Epha-cut AND another protein shake (which replaced 2 of my meals). My friend advised me to use Omega 3 and 6 supplements as well. Think of these supplements as the Tim Noakes of the Fitness industry. Also, it oils the joints and it helps with the fat burning process.

As you can see… this is not a cheap or easy thing to do, and I know, even as I’m really hoping to inspire you to do this, that only a hand few will actually follow through. And… it’s OK. But at least make the choice to lead a healthier lifestyle.

If you’d like to see inspiring Instagrams by Elizabeth Wilson, who made my abs happen, you can follow her @wilsonelizabeth on Instagram. I know she’ll inspire you to make a difference in your life. You can also contact her to purchase any Herbalife products (please mail me lhenke123(at)gmail.com).

Each Peach is different, but Lush’s peach is SPECIAL

A recent study has shown that the smell of citrus lifts a woman’s spirits… boys… if you’re paying close attention, this means copious amounts of lemony bath products and perfumes with top notes of lemon like Dior Addict Shine and … Continue reading

Shimmer – a lovely line of affordable jewellery

The lovely folks at Shimmer invited me to the launch of their new line – “Embrace” at the Bentley Oyster Bar and Bistro in Claremont last Saturday. If you are not familiar with the brand …

“Shimmer is an innovative direct sales company selling high quality, fine fashion jewellery.”

So, on Saturday, Heather (who will henceforth answer to Navi-Heather – the Navigational system with conversational skills) and I scooted on over to the event and we were treated to mimosas and a mini-mani upon arrival.

** Side note – Need to get professional camera AND take great pictures…

With the Shimmer photographer, copious amounts of photo-taking gadgets and loads of props, we had cause and means for some fun poses and funny pics. photo op 2We enjoyed a lovely 4 course meal and I’ll admit that my stomach got the better of me and I did not take any pics of the food… how un-hipster of me…

We got an opportunity to look at the Embrace collection and I scoped out a couple of pieces that have officially been placed on my birthday wish list. Do yourself a favour and look at their brochures – you’ll not only be in awe of the beautiful pieces but you’ll be astounded by how affordable they are. Embrace collection

Despite my tight budget this month, I couldn’t resist getting this leather charm bracelet for only R89! And a little birdie told me that in November, Shimmer will launch the PINK variant! AND … it has OWLS in it! BraceletThis has been, BY FAR, one of THE best launches I’ve attended. I got to meet some people that I’ve been stalking on Instagram and Twitter… like the GORGEOUS Lauren Campbell from Fashionista CT (She is SO pretty and fabulous… I fumbled over my words). I got to catch up with some super cool gals like Lee from Girl about Town PR, Katherine Rossiter and Raylene (who did an amazing post) and we got spoiled with goodies, jewellery and macaroons.

Shimmer swagI am DEFINITELY supporting this brand, and ladies, if you feel like earning an extra income, head on over to their site for more information on becoming a sales representative.

Thanks again to the ladies from Shimmer for putting together such an amazing event. It was really a day to remember!

#ctmeetup – my picks from the Goodie bag

Many of you may have seen tweets, posts or pictures of the Cape Town Meetup goodie bags and if you follow Cindy’s blog, you might even have entered a competition to win one of the leftover goodie bags. What a lovely treat indeed.

Admittedly, I had spread the love by giving away some of my goodies to fellow bloggers as I already have exactly the same goodies at home… not because I didn’t want them. Then there were goodies that I simply could NOT part with and here they are:picks

My Smartkid – stuffed felt owl

Who doesn’t like owls? It doesn’t serve a functional purpose in my life… it just makes me happy.

“Designed by a panel of leading experts, Mysmartkid provides tools for Early Childhood Development to help you give your child the best start in life. Enjoy fun activities with your little one while helping them reach their full potential.”My SmartKid

John Frieda full repair serum

Revlon & JfI love John Frieda. I LOVE John Frieda! I’ve used their products before and have filled up my stash from the gift set they sent me at the beginning of the year. The products aren’t cheap – but it’s not unaffordable either and its lifespan is amazing!

I’ve used the repair serum my hair loves it! Say hello to fabulous, luscious locks with this serum!

Revlon – Bold lacquer Mascara

My poor eye lashes are stumpy, few and far between little spats of hair. So you could imagine my excitement when I saw this little treasure in my goodie bag. I think the result speaks for itself. PicMonkey CollageSaszali chocolates

SaszliMy life changed when I devoured two truffles called Berryrosa and Salted Caramel and once my taste buds calmed down and my blood went back to my brain again, I appreciated the housing of the truffles too.

I loved the little wrappers that named and described the treats that I had consumed with haste (because without it, I wouldn’t have known) and after visiting their site I saw that I love my Laundry in Buitenkant street sells Saszali’s truffles and Tortes. And for those getting married, they do gorgeous wedding favours too!

They also have the most amazing flavours – you have to absolutely check out their site.

Washi tape from Washibug

OK, this was not in the goodie bag – I won it. Yeah!!! m64zTh

I’ve had Washi Tape before, but never really appreciated it, until I had some in pink. Now I want to Washi tape EVERYTHING and have even contemplated Washi nail art. washi tapeWatch out for some DIY Washi posts coming soon.

Paper straws from Heart and Home

strawsAnother thing I never understood – paper straws. They look pretty, yes, but you can’t reuse them. Then the internet showed me new ways of using paper straws and from now on, my cupcakes will have a form of paper straw art on it! cupcakes

Romeofoxtrot Designs

I’ll admit, I was jealous of the pretty bracelets that some of the other ladies got, but after meditating on the matter, I thought “Nope, this is totally meant for me”. I always need motivation – now I can look at my wrist and get all the motivation I need. A simple “Time is what you make of it” is all you need to be better, happier and more productive. Their designs are absolutely stunning and really affordable. I’m slowly building on my collection. Also, I’m pretty aggressive with my jewellery and all of my bracelets are still in mint condish!
