OK, non-bloggers. There’s this thing that’s very convenient for us bloggers, called “scheduled posts”. And if I’m being honest, I’ve got posts lined up, done and scheduled for the next 2 weeks or so (this is how it’s been for a while now and it’s HARD WORK). I headed over to my blog to check what’s happening and I saw that I had passed the 20 000 hits mark!
The other day, I was asked to bind a bunch of documents for one of the gentlemen in my office. He isn’t my boss and he certainly doesn’t control or have any bearing on my income at all, so I didn’t HAVE to do it. It’s also something that I consider to be beneath me – I know my value – I’m not being cocky. But here’s the thing: He asked me so politely, that I wanted to bind the documents with gold rings and ask him if he’d like some fries with his bound documents.
He later boasted about me and how great I was and you know what, I would even make him coffee if he asked me to.
On the other side of the spectrum, I get asked (maybe told is a better word) to do things every day by many people – things beneath me and challenging to me (as I’m sure all of you get told to do as well). They might not be nearly as “demeaning” as binding a bunch of documents but because of the way the instruction was conveyed, we feel disrespected and we don’t feel like doing our best. A couple of weeks ago I posted about the ugly thumb sister which ties in perfectly here.
Whether you are the CEO of a fortune 500 company speaking to the teller at the supermarket, don’t be a douche. Be polite! A word to the wise, after you’ve barked out “Just bring me the coffee” and you’ve left the room, you’re the butt of witnesses’ jokes… not the person you think you embarrassed. I’ve seen this happening first hand… many times.
You’re probably working for or with people who don’t know about manners, or maybe you deal with people like that – this is not your fault and it’s not your job to teach them either. I’ve had to bite my tongue a couple of times instead of blurting out sarcastically “Please?”… instead I remind myself of this little thing called “Karma”.
Manners and demeanour are much more important than what you wear or how you look. I’d much rather go far beyond the call of duty when I’m asked politely to do something than do the bare minimum for someone who barked out an order.
Joel Osteen said something that is very significant to this. He said “Treat EVERYONE like they’re the gatekeeper of your very bright future”. This means, the cleaner that works in your office? She could know somebody that could change your future for the better – be kind to her! Be kind to the bum on the street and the waiter that makes your coffee, because the bum could be a witness in a crime committed against you and the waiter makes your coffee… nuff said.
And if you’re the one dealing with a mannerexic (manner anorexic) just know this – you are not defined by how people treat you. You are awesome! So smile and know that this is not the end of your story…
Last week I featured a former magazine beauty editor gone blogger and super nice person. Most of you guessed Chereen Strydom (For the Beauty of it) by the second day. And you are right! It totally was Chereen!
Sadly, Chereen’s feature didn’t enjoy the much deserved attention I usually give to my featured bloggers – my bad! It’s absolutely no reflection on her, but more on my inability to juggle all my commitments.
This week, I decided to do something a little different and instead of emailing her (because both of us are very busy) I thought I’d make a word montage of why Chereen is so awesome.
Congrats to Lauren Groenewald – our very first PFG blogger. Lo-Grow… will be in contact with you soon!
Also… due to the lack of hours in the day, my diminishing social life, my blog backlog and my seriously neglected laundry basket, I have decided to make Project Feel Good a monthly insert instead of a weekly series. This way, I will have time to collect enough awesome hints and I’ll be able to make the prizes bigger too!
I know a lot of people have been waiting on this post (judging only by the comments I got on my abs posts on Instagram).
Last year this time, I took the step to a more healthy lifestyle – cutting out carbs as far as possible and increasing my protein intake. But on my journey I’ve taken a couple of unnecessary detours because “I knew better”. I decided to take this step because a friend of mine was doing incredibly well on Herbalife. But I have this “Nah, I’ll do it my way” mentality and then I end up dwindling back to what I was told to do anyways.
For months I have been testing different brands of protein shakes but I always had a tub of Herbalife shake stashed somewhere for a rainy day. One day, when I finished another tub of my first choice of protein shake, I thought “screw this! I’m gonna finish my Herbalife shakes” (Which I had purchased ONLY in support of my friend who sells the products).
If you’re not familiar with the exercises … here you go
We had to incorporate these exercises into your normal workout over a course of 4 weeks – it wasn’t clear as to how often a week you had to do them, but since the challenge, I made sure that I went to the gym at least 3 – 4 times a week.
I mentioned my protein shakes vs the Herbalife shakes. Now, I know there have been negative rumours about the company, but I’ll say this… the Herbalife products WORK! I replaced two meals a day with Herbalife shakes and for snacks, I stuck to fruit and yogurt and for dinner, I had whatever I wanted…. in moderation, of course. Stay away from excessive carbs. We need carbs from time to time, but try to stop after the first potato … MKay?
What really motivated me
I’m a bit of an insta-stalker and like to follow fitness profiles like @unifit_inspiration and other profiles that feature good bodies. But what I find most helpful is looking at pictures of people that I know. If you don’t have that someone on Facebook that you hate to look at … I suggest you find new frennemies.
Fit Santa’s little helpers
I’ve always been on fat burners – I use the Clicks brand called Epha-Cut and it does the job as well as any USN Phedra Cut can do (look at me… with the lingo and what not…) BUT in the “Week 1” Picture above, I was on Epha-cut AND another protein shake (which replaced 2 of my meals). My friend advised me to use Omega 3 and 6 supplements as well. Think of these supplements as the Tim Noakes of the Fitness industry. Also, it oils the joints and it helps with the fat burning process.
As you can see… this is not a cheap or easy thing to do, and I know, even as I’m really hoping to inspire you to do this, that only a hand few will actually follow through. And… it’s OK. But at least make the choice to lead a healthier lifestyle.
If you’d like to see inspiring Instagrams by Elizabeth Wilson, who made my abs happen, you can follow her @wilsonelizabeth on Instagram. I know she’ll inspire you to make a difference in your life. You can also contact her to purchase any Herbalife products (please mail me lhenke123(at)gmail.com).
You guys, weekend is here and … HAWT DAMMIT! I’m so ready for it! Without getting soppy and teary eyed… this year needs to come to an end now. Is anyone else feeling the 3/4 year fatigue like I am?
This is why I’m really enjoying the song I’m featuring today. It’s a little bit of soul that surprises you with a dose of drum and base and the video has a serious MEXICAN vibe to it, which I’m SO DIGGING!
I hope you enjoy… Here’s Changing by Sigma ft Paloma Faith
My lush haul (or at least what qualifies in my books as a haul) included a Ceridwen’s Cauldren. I was partly persuaded by a video I saw by another blogger (and now I can’t remember who it was… oops), but the name of the bath melt was the final nail in the coffin.
Sort of pot looking, right? And if you’re relaxing in the tub, it’s almost like a big pot – cooking away the stress.
A bath melt is a slow releasing bath oil and Ceridwen’s Cauldron is a lovely combination of oats, soothing lavender and rich oils. Every bath melt is wrapped like a gift in muslin cloth and dipped in wild flowers … feeling like a hippy yet?
As the butters melt, you’ll feel your skin softening and the stresses of the day leaving your body while the wild flowers and lavender create a feast for the senses. The oats make the water milky and you’d be excused for demanding the execution of your sister, because, yes, you WILL feel like Cleopatra.
The only downside to this is the one time use. But it is a GREAT once a month or once a week (if you can afford it) spoil and it is something that you must try. If you’d like to buy yours, click here.
Just like everyone who attended the Hey Gorgeous High Tea at the One and Only Hotel, I got the first look at their spring/summer range. As I was helping to set up and pack out the products, I “Ooh and … Continue reading
