How to: Get psyched for 2015 – reach your goals

I know we’re only in September but before you know it, we’ll be in December, planning our holiday shopping and going on holiday, by which time you won’t have any time to think about the next year.

Do you want to go through another year of unfulfilled New Year’s Resolutions, or do you want to take 2015 by the horns? I choose horns, please!

Start now – here’s how

Think of all the things happening in your life right now and where you want to be in the next 5 years. Now set your goals.

To give you an example:

(Assessment) I’m currently just a blogger, (goal) but in 5 years, I want to be an editor for an online or print magazine.

Now that you’ve assessed and set a goal, you need to PLAN your way to success.

Example: How am I going to get there? (Plan) I need to take a course and sharpen my skills.

Now that you have a plan, do your research and take action so that by the 1st of January 2015, all you have to do is show up.

Example: I found a comprehensive online course that suits my pocket and I’ve enrolled and paid my fees.

I firmly believe that the reason why so many New Year’s resolutions end in tears and disappointment is because they’re made too late. Failing to plan is planning to fail – don’t set yourself up for failure.

Here’s a list of the 10 commonly broken New Year’s Resolutions

  1. Lose weight and get fit
  2. Quit Smoking
  3. Learn a new skill
  4. Eat Healthier and Diet
  5. Get out of debt and save money
  6. Spend more time with family
  7. Travel to new Places
  8. Be less stressed
  9. Volunteer
  10. Drink less

There are great solutions to all of these – take action – make it a reality! If you want to get out of debt, sign up for debt counselling. If you want to spend more time with family, set out time and let them know when it’s going to happen.

All your goals can be achieved if you set your mind to it, plan and take action. Do it NOW before the New Year’s blues set in and you’re frustrated before you even made your goals.
